Rare Foundations: Law Candidate

Being part of Rare Foundations: Law made me realise that I wanted to become a commercial solicitor. The programme began with visiting Clifford Chance and Herbert Smith Freehills. Whilst at these firms, we spoke to partners and trainees. These discussions made me understand that despite studying Politics, I was not at a disadvantage in becoming a commercial solicitor. The workshops covered a variety of topics including litigation and negotiation.

I believe it was only through Rare Foundations: Law that I was accepted onto such a variety of first year schemes.

Fola completed the Freshfields non-law workshop, a two-day insight scheme at Ashurst, A&O First, a week’s work experience at Herbert Smith Freehills and the Clifford Chance First Year Springboard Scheme, which led to a training contract interview.

Rare Foundations: Law Candidate

Rare Foundations: Law was an extremely helpful insight into the legal profession.

The Articles insight event, Breakthrough, involved a commercial awareness workshop which improved the fluency with which candidates discussed current affairs and their commercial implications. I particularly enjoyed the panel session with partners from eleven different firms as it was not only accessible to first year students, but also improved our understanding of the different practice areas of a law firm.

The insight into Clifford Chance and Hogan Lovells allowed us to network with graduate recruitment, trainees, associates and partners at both law firms. I found the application and interview skills workshop with graduate recruitment very useful in my applications for first year insight schemes. We were also given a talk on excelling in important university modules by Melissa Andrewes which was invaluable in preparing for first year exams. The negotiation and dispute resolutions workshops at both law firms were a fun and informative insight into the work of a commercial lawyer.

Folarin completed the A&O First programme, a first year workshops at Freshfields and Herbert Smith Freehills and first year schemes at Ashurst and Clifford Chance, which led to a training contract offer.
