TARGET CAMBRIDGE AND IMPERIAL

The Programme

Target Cambridge and Imperial is a Year 10 programme run in collaboration between the University of Cambridge, Imperial College London and diversity specialists Rare. The aim is to provide students of Black African and Caribbean heritage in Year 10 with insight into student life at Cambridge and Imperial Universities and give information on how to make a competitive application to these top universities. It also provides students with advice on A Level subject combinations that will enable them to study the subjects they are interested in at university.

The programme consists of five online webinars in Year 10, taking place between April and July.

Students accepted onto the programme are then invited to join two further webinars in Year 11.

Students will have the chance to hear from Black Cambridge and Imperial students and graduates, the Rare team and the Admissions and Outreach Teams of both universities. The webinars will cover:

  • What Cambridge and Imperial are really like;
  • What admissions tutors are looking for in applicants;
  • How to work towards a competitive application for top universities;
  • How degree subject choice can affect career options;
  • Routes into a career in law with programme sponsor Clifford Chance
  • A Social Sciences/Humanities taster lecture with a Cambridge academic;
  • A STEM taster lecture with an Imperial academic;
  • Advice on how to develop subject knowledge through super-curricular activities;
  • Revision Tips for Year 11 students.

At the end of the programme, students will be given information on how to apply for Cambridge and Imperial’s Year 12 university access and outreach programmes including Target Oxbridge and Imperial STEM Futures.
