Civil Service Fast Stream
The Civil Service Fast Stream is a graduate programme for those who have the potential to become a senior leader in the Civil Service. They are one of the biggest employers in the UK with over 420,000 employees, and are consistently ranked in the top five of The Times Top 100 Graduate Employers.
Their work supports the government of the day by developing and implementing policies that support the public services which they are responsible for. They are politically impartial. Their workforce includes people who deliver crucial services direct to the public, from face-to-face Jobcentre staff to supporting the Head of National Security.
It is important that the Civil Service Fast Stream is diverse and reflects society. The Fast Stream enables graduates to make an impact on people’s lives in the UK and the world. You could work in areas such as education, the economy, foreign affairs, defence policy, health, the environment and many more.
Responsibility will come quickly and you’ll get a wide range of experience in a very short space of time. An intensive two to four year training scheme is offered with a rotational structure, enabling exposure to many different aspects of government. These could include the Ministry of Justice, the Home Office and the Department for Exiting the European Union. There is a clear sense of progression and there is the opportunity for promotion to a Grade 7 lower senior leadership position after the scheme.
The Civil Service also offer an Early Diversity Internship Programme for first year students and a Summer Diversity Internship Programme for penultimate year students, applications due to open in early Autumn.
