Rt Hon David Lammy MP

David Lammy became the first Black Briton to study a Masters in Law at the Harvard Law School in 1997, three years after being admitted to the Bar of England and Wales and in June 2000 he was elected as Labour MP for Tottenham. Following his re‑election in 2001, David became the first Tottenham MP to hold a Government position since 1945.

David served nine years (2001‑10) as a Minister in the last Labour government in various departments, and in 2008 was made a member of the Privy Council.

David is an Honorary Ambassador of ActionAid and an Associate Fellow in the Centre for Caribbean Studies at the University of Warwick. He sits on the International Advisory Board of the University of London School of Oriental and African Studies and is a member of the Royal Society of the Arts. David is also the author of Out of the Ashes: Britain after the riots, a book about the reasons behind the 2011 riots and what has to be done to prevent them happening ever again.
