Racheal Sanni does not shy away from big conversations. The radio show she co-hosts really is Leicester’s Biggest Conversation and since it began in January 2010 it has attracted hundreds of people from her university city and beyond to engage in topical discussion. From abusive relationships to the General Elections, Racheal wants to talk about it.

The active church choir member who has just started learning to play the guitar considers herself a “social butterfly who has always been a community-based girl”. She is a volunteer for the Domestic Violence Integrated Response Project, which supports victims of domestic violence and she is also heavily involved in Positive Passion, a non-profit organisation committed to steering vulnerable young people away from gun and knife crime.

After losing her mother in March 2009, Racheal had to confront the biggest challenge of her life. She took five weeks out of her first year of university, returning just two weeks before her exams to secure a 2.1. Instead of letting her grief paralyze her, Racheal has decided to follow through with the career plan she made with her mother before she passed away.
“I like being active and I really want to make a difference in society through my charity and professional work. I don’t believe there is any point complaining if you’re not going to do anything about it”, she says.

This summer, Racheal became a Money Mentor, teaching sixteen-year-olds about the importance of budgeting. She hopes to secure a training contract with a City law firm to nurture her interest in the corporate aspects of her Law degree.
She hopes to one day set up an organisation like Rare to allow students to get insights into careers from an early age.
