The rare model

There are a number of organisations with similar goals, and potential clients often ask us what makes us different. Rare is unique for a number of reasons:

  • Each autumn, we visit a large number of universities to run recruitment events. Our events are free and open to all and are designed to help as many people as possible find out about Rare. We also recruit people by word of mouth. In both cases, candidates who've heard about Rare sign up online.
  • We assess candidates for potential on five measures - educational achievement, work experience, leadership and membership of extra-curricular organisations, integrity, and personal impact.
  • We invite successful applicants for an initial interview, and ask them a series of questions about their values, hopes and aspirations. The responses to these questions form a personality profile which enables us and them to compare their responses to the average and to see which things are unusually important to them. Based on these interviews, we give each student bespoke, individual advice on which careers route might suit them.
  • The level of trust and individuality this process engenders means we are able to suggest careers to students which are suitable for them, but which because of their own preconceptions, they might not otherwise consider.
  • Once a student has decided on a career path, we do everything we can to help him or her make a successful application to our clients. We test candidates on numerical, verbal, and non-verbal reasoning, and offer them practice books and re-tests where appropriate.
  • We also give candidates mock interviews and assessment centres. Everything we do is based on the principle of enabling talent. We never coach our candidates to do or say a certain thing but we stamp out bad habits and show them how high they have to aim if they are to get hired. In short, we try to inject some of the social capital that otherwise exceptional people might lack.
  • We are totally committed to excellence. Click here to see some of our candidates.
  • We ask you to judge us solely on the number of hires you make through us. We are used to success. For every four graduate applications made through Rare, on average, two people get interviewed, and one person gets hired.

If you don't see a difference in your graduate entry workforce, then we have failed.
