Rare has launched a groundbreaking new report entitled ‘High Achieving Black Students: A Portrait’.
This new research sets out, for the first time, the number of African-Caribbean students with AAA at A Level or equivalent; which schools and which parts of the country they come from; which universities they choose, why, and how they do at these universities; barriers facing these students in employment, and, finally, what employers can do to connect better with this group.
The report was sponsored by UBS and was launched at UBS’s offices in the City on 17th December. Sir David Bell, Chairman of the Financial Times, gave the key note address. Sir David then facilitated a lively discussion amongst the guests, who were a mixture of top businesspeople and high achieving black students, and the panel. As well as Sir David the panel included Raphael Mokades, Managing Director of Rare, Nussaibah Younis, a former Rare candidate who carried out all the original research for the project and wrote the report, and Yewande Sokan, a member of Rare’s Advisory Board.
