Rare also runs bespoke coaching and development programmes for candidates interested in particular organisations and sectors. We currently run three such programmes, with more in the pipeline.
Civil Service Intensive Development Programme
The Civil Service Intensive Development Programme (IDP) aims to help successful candidates from the Civil Service Summer Diversity Internship Programme to go on and gain a place on the Civil Service Fast Stream. IDP candidates receive individual, one-to-one development sessions covering interview technique, presentation and writing skills from qualified executive coach and Rare’s Assessment and Training Director, Daniel Mokades. Candidates also attend a number of group sessions.
Now in its fourth year, the IDP has had a significant impact – IDP participants are 16 times more likely to be offered a place on the Fast Stream than candidates who do not do the IDP. Last year, 10 IDP participants gained places on the Fast Stream.
NHS Coaching Programme
The NHS Coaching Programme aims to help candidates from diverse backgrounds realise their potential during the latter stages of the assessment process for the NHS graduate scheme. Candidates receive one-on-one help in preparing for interviews from Daniel Mokades. Candidates are also put through their paces in an intensive assessment centre preparation exercise involving a number of the Rare team. This exercise tests presentation skills and includes group exercises.
The NHS Coaching Programme is now in its third year. Last year, 7 programme participants gained places on the NHS graduate programme.
Articles
Articles is Rare’s development programme for selected candidates interested in pursuing careers with Rare’s legal clients. Each participant enjoys a gruelling programme of monthly one-on-one sessions with Elham Saudi, Rare’s Associate Director, who spent seven years as a lawyer at Slaughter and May. Participants are challenged to enhance their knowledge of and ability to talk about complex commercial, economic and political issues in a confident manner. Articles participants also attend monthly group sessions, with one session being held by each of Rare’s legal clients.
In 2011, the 19 Articles participants secured 27 vacation scheme offers between them.
